Getting back in the game

Had a 95 Cherokee, moved on to a 03 Wrangler (really bad decision for a multitude of reasons) then on to an 07 WRX (super fun car, but missing my jeep). Thinking of trading it in for a Cherokee as a DD. I am expecting to spend more on gas, even though it's less expensive gas. Plus I feel more comfortable with an XJ with 120k vs a WRX with 90k, mechanically.

I've found a 96 that promises to be rust free, but it has 201k on the clock and there is no way I'm having 1 car with that many miles as my sole transport. I might just pick it up, if I can haggle down the price (3600 is high, even for this cherokee sparse area).

Can you all think of anything specific too look for in a high milage XJ? I might think about rebuilding or having a rebuild kitbon hand just in case.

but 201k isnt bad, just make sure it's not leaking and check all the fluids.

DNFJ is right...

You really can't find many XJ's under 200k that are worth anything... Jeeps can last if you take care of them.

Just check for leaks...

At 201,000 miles, an XJ with a 4.0 is just starting to get broke in (as long as it was maintained). I have a '91 with @ 279,000 miles and I wouldn't hesitate to jump in and drive coast to coast in it. It's my DD and my goin' to the woods work vehicle.

Just to update, a week or so ago I made the trade and now own an XJ again! It's a 2000 (yay 0331 head! :/ ) with 94k on it. About as rust free as I've seen in western NY too. Really happy with it. I'm going to keep eagle eyes on the coolant level. I changed the air filter, spark plugs, and put mobil 1 in her w/ an oversized purolator filter in. Oil pressure sits around 50psi usually, never below 35ish once warm. I'm wanting to do a coolant flush, any recommendations?
