I still don't think you guys have heard a loud exhaust if you are only talking about jeeps. Get behind a mustang or a vette with straight through exhaust, even with 'mufflers', and you'll hear loud.

Driving through parking garages, I'll rev it to redline and it'll give me a headache.

yeah, i know. weird though, i heard a vette at work yesterday and it sounded like it was running underwater. guy said it was just the new exhaust though..it had borla exhaust.

either way, i went wheeling the other day with two friends, both with chevys with 350s. one was straight to straight thru mufflers and the other was completely straight pipe all the way out the back. we were under and over pass and they both started revving it up and it shook the ground. those sounds made me want to do a 5.9 swap in my xj so bad..

Yup, I have a buddy who recently swapped a 5.3L Envoy motor (with an aftermarket cam lol) and a 460LE transmission into his wrangler. The thing sounds awesome on the road and the trails. Has plenty of torque for anything he can throw at it lol.

Straight pipe = A LOT OF pollution and unnecessary noise, both of which are really bad offroad. I hate ATVs for that reason. Some friends and I took my WJ on the Goose Lake jeep trail by Cooke City MT, and went for a hike. It was one of the most beautiful places I had ever seen, but a redneck family with ATVs making a crapload of noise was the one bad thing.

Tell your friends to grow up and stop ruining the world for the rest of us. They have no business on a trail unless they can learn to respect nature and other people.

taking the muffler off mine was free.

winkosmosis, i live in minnesota and the only beauty is outside the city. where i live, there is no beauty. all i know is, the truck with the striaght through mufflers and aftermarket cats sounds orgasmic.

yeah the truck with no cats or mufflers sounds decent but it doesnt sound as mean and powerful as the truck with the freeflow exhaust. kind of the same way with my jeep and my friend's who's jeep has a blown out cat. his sounds more rat rodish but can get annoying. i like how i can barely give it gas and keep going and it will become almost silent.

I save my pollution and excessive noise for on the road where some people need a quick 5k rpm blast to wake up. I'll keep my XJ quiet and environmentally friendly.

Haha so true. I never listen to the radio in my stang, there is nothing like the sound of that V8. I have strait thru mufflers on my stang with a high flow catted H pipe and it sounds so.......good. Today I moved my car from the back of the parking lot at work to the front and just giving it some gas set off a few car alarms. It's not overly loud compared to the muscle cars with O/R mid pipes but it has that nice rounded out muscle car sound. On the other hand I think the 4.0 I6 in the jeep is one of the best sounding 6s I have ever heard.
