free mods?

I was wondering if there's any free mods you can do to improve an 86 xj 2.8l v6? Like on my yj removing sway bar and track bar improves flex and kidney protection.. is there anything like that on an xj that can be done? If not what are cheap mods to make the jeep better in anyway?

Scrap it and buy a 87-01 so you get a 4.0 there is no helping a 2.8l.

Choke issues I would check first.

For 600 bucks I wouldnt worry about it having a 2.8l (terrible motor though), just get out and have fun. However if you do want to get serious into it all then you may want to consider a better starting point. Even a 2.5l mid 90s 4 banger would be a better start than the old 2.8's. As tom mentioned the 3.4l is a fine (and simple) swap.

Overall though Id just play with it and have fun. Us XJ guys are so spoiled by the 4.0's that anything else is pathetic in our eyes. We are all a bit jaded but the 2.8 will serve you just fine depending upon your expections. Bottom line, its not a Blazer so youre already ahead of the pack.

Haha I definitley could feel its lack of power and horrible acceleration. I just like going down trails and stuff in the jeeps. Not so much mud or steep slippery hills so it does work... its more of a DD for my fiance I was just wondering if there was free things you can do to them in any aspect like I said with track/sway bar removal in the jeep yjs that add flex and make them beat the heck out of you a little less haha

You can remove your rear sway bar but I don't suggest the front

There are also tons upon tons of cheap mods threads for xjs, maybe not for your motor but for the overall vehicle.
My favorite cheap mod was removing the carpet, cutting a Templet of the cargo area out of card board and then cutting it out of some puzzle work mats. It looks great, lessens road noise, and it's very comfortable for... Activities...

Also easy to remove and clean

Flipping the rearview mirror upside down was probably my favorite free mod. Doesnt help performance in anyway but it sure makes the windshield seem a lot bigger haha.
