Finally got around to painting my wheels!

I hate the look of these stock wheels so I've been wanting to paint them black since I got the Jeep a month ago. Finally got around to it today. Hopefully my little bit of prep does the trick and the paint lasts for a bit. I used some heavy grit Scotchbrite pads to clean up the wheels first. Then sprayed them with a quick drying grease solvent. Then rattle canned with Krylon Indoor/Outdoor Semi Flat Black paint. Used some 1300 watt work lights to apply some heat to help the paint cure for about 10 minutes. Turned out pretty good, now to see if it holds up!

If they don't, get a good high build primer, Krylon wheel paint and Krylon wheel clear coat. I've got stock XJ rims on my pickup that I painted like that and they've held up for a couple years now. You'd never know they weren't factory painted.

I'd also clean those center caps off good and hit them with a heat gun. It'll pull the color back out of them and make them look new again and look as good as the wheels.

Good tips, thanks a bunch!

Looks a lot better, I had some nasty pitted ultra wheels on my XJ when I bought it, I sold those wheels to a local guy for his offroad trailer build . I saw him the other day with the trailer the black paint helped those wheels a bunch. I kinda wish I did that when I saw how nice they look now

Yeah, that's why I said high build primer. Napa makes one that works awesome. Not all that cheap, but definitely worth it.

They don't have it on their website, but it's rattle can, comes in a black can, but I think only their stores that have the auto paint side to them carry it.
