Factory Roof Rack Capacity

How much can the factory cross bars of our roof rack support? I'm an interested in putting my spare up there until I get my rear tire carrier built. Would it hurt anything to simply strap the tire to the roof? Also where can I get replacement cross bars and tie down nobs? Thanx York.
