a little update, i came home from work to find ruffstuff's 7/8" heim steering kit i ordered




and cut out my passenger side frame stiffner. i still need to drill the holes in it.

drilled holes in the frame stiffners



cleaned up the frame



im hoping i can start welding it on tomorrow

I make my stiffening holes smaller but more frequent and closer toghether. Does it make it easier to weld your way? I figured if I make a bunch of small holes (about 1/2") spread out I cover more surface area. Just asking if you have any method to your madness?

ya its easier to weld and less holes to drill. i thought about making smaller holes but decided against it because most the frame stiffners i have seen have had smaller holes that were about the same distance apart as mine. also there's a couple jeepspeed's with front frame stiffners that are pretty similar to mine so i figured if they can hold up on a jeepspeed then it will hold up on my pre-runner.

rounded off all the edges on my frame stiffners



tacked in place



i got about 1/4 of the way done before my shielding gas started to get blown away so im gonna try and finish welding them up tomorrow

I guess if jeepspeed does it, I'll start making them that way.

What are you using to cut. Plasma?

I've seen jeepspeeds with holes drilled out similar to mine and some drilled out with 1/2" or 9/16" drill bits similar to what he offload sells but I wasn't going drill out that many holes.

Ya i used the plasma to cut out the plate and used a hole saw to cut the holes. Im probably going to get one of these pretty soon, it should make cutting holes alot easier.

hole size doesnt matter that much, just weld her up, dont forget to plate the upper coil/bumpstop area. lookin good man.

i started mocking up my front 3 link and ran into a little problem, im shooting for about 6" to 7" of up travel up front but at about 4.5" of up travel my upper link mount starts running out of room. so it looks like im going to be building a shorter link bracket so i can get the up travel i want

ruffstuff's kit is awsome, great quality as always. i have never been disapointed in anything i bought from ruffstuff or any product from the other company's for this build. everything has been great quality.

i got my steering box brace from JKS



and a drop pitman arm from polyperformance
