Xj DIY Roof Rack?

Well it's Sunday and I wanna make a little project for myself, after looking over many racks I think I can make one myself and customize it exactly how I want it for lighting, cb antenna, tire holder, etc etc. Anyone have any DIY Roof Rack threads on her to get me up and going?

Don't do it! Too much air resistance!

Unless you're clever and do something never-before-seen like use thin aluminum plates for the sides and bottom, and then run thin cables across instead of thick metal tubes.

question is, what you want at the end. Do you want a small rack just to fix some non heavy stuff up there, or do you want a heavy duty rack with spare tire mount, hi-lift mount, etc. on it?

You could always get a manufactured rack and modify it to your needs, thats what i plan on doing with my surco. Im gonna get some boxed steel and redo the floor similar to what xj austria did (great job btw). The surco rack has a very weak bottom, and you can bolt up angle iron for lights or whatever. Depend on where you bolt it up, you can mount anything you want. Highlift, shovel, etc... only for about 5 bucks of angle iron at lowes.
