dirt bike carrier

I was thinking about buying a dirt bike carrier that goes into your hitch. Has anyone in here used one. Or has anyone used the two dirt bike carrier. Was also wondering how bad it would squat the rear end of the jeep.

I built one for a FS Bronco, a single carrier. I think it weighed as much as the bike (KTM 440MX) when I got done. I remember it being flippin heavy and awkward, I don't remember it squatting to bad by the time I got my gear in the back along with the assorted tools and spare parts and I put a gas can mount on it also. I only used it about four times before I decided a Pickup was a better choice and sold the Bronco and carrier all in one shot.
I think you could do it, but a double would make an XJ squat pretty bad by the time you got all your gear in. Your talking 500lbs+ of bikes, then a carrier at 100 to 150lbs (assumes steel) plus gear, thats a lot hanging off a back end. My .02 anyway

I have one that is a 2 bike carrier. typically loaded with only one bike. Me and my father in law drove all the way from southern ca to rubicon with a dirt bike hanging off the back and the back of the jeep loaded with camping equipment and tools. It did cause my jeep to squat a little obviously but not much. I have a 2 inch lift on 30 inch tires and thats it for now. Driving it was very easy. Just remember with the added weight you need a little extra room to stop and when backing up remember how far it sticks out. Other than that I think its a very good option.

i use one as well, its home made and works great, even holds 2 gas cans. not useless or a PITA when you got no other option. and i know it sticks out far, but i have never had a problem with the tongue weight, that bike weighe EASILY 250lbs. and in those pics i have all my riding gear and tools in the XJ. but since the OP has a truck your money is better spent elsewhere
