I have more of the material that's being used for the vents. I have 2 vents sections left, these will be placed to the outside of the bump pads. Buy the time I'm done, the bumper will appear to be only 3ft wide.
What do you think of the prep work under the headlights? I'm gonna do the same thing with the rear bumper.
I'm gonna head up to the shop and build the brackets for the end caps. I'll have pics later to look at, since I seem to be the only one who likes my build. I think its cuz I haven't bolted/welded on an extra 1000lbs of hardware, but that's my build.
I don't intentionally go out to bust my rig, so I don't feel the need for the heavy steel bumpers.
Also, our weather is so up and down, I really don't see the need for a basket that will always be empty.
Rocker skids would be cool, but that just takes away 2-3" of clearance. If I change my mind I had gotten the idea to do a full loop of 2-2.5" tube around the bottom. This would contour up over the tires to replace the flares. But that's a lot of weight.
So why did I put 200+lbs of sub woofer crap in the back if weight is an issue? Cuz I damn well wanted to!
Why am I so worried about weight? The best way to make your engine last as long as possible is to not modify it. After I've gotten all the good stock years out of it, then I'll rebuild it and mod the hell out of it.
Last of all, it really saddens me to know that so few of you see diamond plate the way I do. Ya, I'm some old fart who grew up in the '80's, back when CJ's were everywhere, even in our driveway, '78 Renegade. But the cool CJ's were decked out in diamond plate, it was a Jeep thing. That's my motivation.
Maybe it all has something to do with everybody thinking I'm a jerk, too
Good to know, thanks bud.
Well, here's phase 3, of 4, on the bumper project. These are extentions/brackets I needed to fab cuz the last piece to go on each side isn't wide enuf to reach from top to bottom.
The black vinyl is for a black background through the holes in the last piece.
