I don't get it. I've gotten more negative responses on each mod in it's planning stage. And yet, in person, not a soul can keep from staring at my Jeep.
This black stripe has been shot down by every person I've shown this pic to. I'm still doing it. I'm anxious as hell to do it. I need to find the vinyl at a reasonable price first. I'm also still trying to decide what to use to make the dp black. The paint I was considering is VHT Chassis and Rollbar, I don't want it textured, any suggestions other than this?

Black stripe on the side? YES
Hood? Not so much. It won't look bad, but it will look better with the origin paint.

The sides are a must cuz I've got pressure marks (not quite dents) on one quarter and both doors. The hood doesn't need the cover-up. I just thought it'd look cool, and again, the hood scheme would not include any more dp. But it would help my current dp hood vents to stand out a little more

Hey now, not every person. I liked it over in the WDYDTYXJ thread.

I still like it and I think the hood would look good with a matching stripe too. It will give it the retro, early '70's SS look.

Not so much you guys. The people I see everyday don't like my conceptions, but they sure haven't minded the result.
And yes, kinda retro SS. With just the stripe down the side, I can't decide if it looks more like a Wagoneer or a '70's Blazer so I think doing the hood would change that.

Well, my back window should be here today. I don't know if I got the tinted one, but I can tint it anyway. It'll sure be nice to see what's behind me

I got the window, getting the tint on, a couple days to dry, and in it goes. Spent last night cleaning all the age off of the rubber seal, looks like new now

The only thing is I love the way my front bumper mod turned out. Perhaps I'll save my modded bumpers for one of my kids XJ's.
Have you put any thought to this system? I think with the setup you have it would be perfect.

I agree with this. And I'm usually the guy who tells you to do all the crazy ****. I'm a big fan of the color (at least after you've done what you did).

If you are conflicted, do it with plasti-dip, and if it's ugly, peel it off.

My plan was to build a winch plate on the tow bar and notch the bumper where the license plate is. That way the winch doesn't impede my current clearance and it's not in front of the radiator.

Do it. You know you'll miss the chrome bumpers, and honestly, having your custom 1 off bumpers is a hell of a lot better than something anybody can go buy.

I do like being unique. Plus, the stock bumpers are way lighter. With adding the weight of a winch, who needs another hundred lbs of bumper
