Custom Switch Panel Idea

So I got board tonight and decided to make a custom switch panel for some extra switches.

So I ordered 4 of these of Ebay for 12 bucks.

My idea is to mount the switches where the red square is. Where the green square is is where I'm going to trim a piece out of an extra center console I have laying around to mount the switches on.

I'm going to try to make this look as clean as possible. What do you guys think? I spent like an hour working out all the measurements for the switches to be perfectly spaced apart.

I think thats a great location for a switch panel, and if you cut out the little tray and smooth out the edges around it, then mount the other piece from underneath it would look almost factory.

Also, if you run all the wiring to the switches first then make a relay/fuse box (as in FitchVa's idea), you wont have to remove the console every time you add a new accessory

EDIT!

Man that looks like he dished out some serious bucks to make that. I may do something like that but mount it in a different spot.

put masking tape over the wood grain before you start cutting it up so you don't scratch the plastic

You can make one of those for around $20 total...

Me personally? I'm going to go scavenge a PDC (Power Distribution Center, the fuse/relay panel beside the battery) and use that. It's already designed to handle fuses and relays, it already is designed for automotive use, and it already comes with a designed-for-it cover. Just snip the entire wiring harness a foot back from the connections on the under side and you can use a lot of the existing wiring, too. No need for primary power wires to the relays as those will be hard connections in the panel itself. All you need to do is re-label the lid and run the switch circuits.

Oh, and to the OP, that's exactly where my switch panel will be going, too. I'm also going to use the sunglasses cubby in front of the shifter for switches and indicators. I think my OBA gauge will be going in there as well. I currently have it screwed through the cowl. Not the best place as the wipers block it.

Well here is the design all drawn up. It took me hours to get all the measurements perfect. The curves on the ends took the longest.
The circles in the center of the switch are how they mount.

well its gunna suck to have to reach under your ebrake to engage the switches. Mine are at arms length w/o bending.

I used the FitchVA switch box idea, and removed the sun visor above the drivers head. Mounted the switch box there and I love it. Out of the way, but easy to reach and you can see whats on or off out of the corner of your eye. I got Contura switches in OEM green color to match the interior, and they match the CB as well. Really happy with this set up.

As one of the above posters stated, make sure you run wires for all the switches so you dont need to take the console off every time you add something.
