Don't go radical over having the 0331 head like wanting to swap it out right away. Your Jeep runs great, that's all you need for starters. The 4W project is worth doing because it will mean you can do more with your Jeep and it will increase the value of it.
Funny you mention that, I had a friend replace my alternator last night and while he was doing it I was checking fluids and saw that the coolant tank was nearly dry but I swore 2 weeks ago it was full. My temp gauge never gets near the middle though, ill watch out for leaks.

Should I trust the oil pressure on the dash? or its better to just check physically once every few days.

Good to know that 167k isn't considered high mileage for this engine.

I have not had the experience but the most prominent sign of a cracked head is unexplained coolant loss. HOWEVER, you will lose some coolant a little at time through natural causes. If your PO didn't maintain the Jeep your overflow could be nearly dry and you are still ok. A full flush and refill could be in order. Otherwise fill it an keep an eye on it frequently. You Jeep is no doubt not using any oil but I would also pull the dip stick frequently at first to make sure it is clean and full. I change my oil every 3k and it never really gets dirty. As for the type of oil there are volumes of posts on that subject. IMO a good 10W-30 will do the job.

It's always good to check the level but that doesn't mean you have good pressure. With as many miles as mine has on it. I too got concerned. I installed a quality mechanical gauge. And pressure was actually higher then the dash said but is lower then should be. The good thing is these 4.0's can operate with little oil pressure for a long time if needed. They are stout power plants. Chrysler really messed up when they killed it off. You won't find anyone that will disagree with that.

Hey guys, how do I know if I have the infinity radio or not. I currently have a cd/tape deck with bass/mid/treb adjustment bars. I'm thinking its just the basic system but I can't find any pictures of either system to tell the difference.

Use this link to get your build sheet. (You may have to click on this text on the first page the link above takes you to ">> Click Here To Proceed To Link Destination <<" to actually go to the site) That will give you some decent information about what your XJ came with from the factory, which most likely is what is on it now.

Thanks for the reminder on the coolant!! I'll check today and let you know.

1 issue did begin though that appears common, my left speaker and window switch intermittently works, windows seems to only go down and up if I have the driver door swung all the way open, if I shut it and press up or down, the lights inside the switch turn off and nothing moves. Guess I have a short.

Another odd thing along with that is that when I turn on the rear defogger, the green lights turn off, on all the windows switches and door lock switches until I turn the rear defogger off.

Looks like I don't have the infinity but ill just post everything in the email below anyway.

Coolant looks good, bottle is still full so far. I'm hoping the previous owner had the head issue and fixed it before i took over.

Currently I'm only getting 200 miles out of a full tank with 70% city and 30%hwy driving. I don't think that's terrible but I could probably grandma the pedal a bit.

Do you have heated mirrors? I bet you have broken wires in the drivers door jamb. Common problem.

Does yours have the closed radiator system without a radiator cap? Mine had the radiator changed by the PO and to an open system, which is nice for really checking the coolant level. I never trust the overflow bottle personally.

200 miles per tank is lower than what I get but I drive the opposite of you with about 75% hwy and 25% city, but mine is lifted 3" and sitting on 31's so your mileage may be a little low but I wouldn't know what to tell you to look for on that subject.

Yes I do, and I believe you're right, was at burger king last night and got the window down but couldn't get it back up, I opened the door half way and squeezed the black rubber that hides the wires going to the door and boom it worked.

I have the open system, overflow bottle on left behind battery, and cap on the right, when I refilled about 3 weeks ago I dumped coolant in both areas, I didn't trust just the bottle either.

I'm definitely gonna look into what is going on to improve mileage.

Just took the Jeep on its first road trip last week, racked up 540 miles over the weekend visiting Chattanooga and Nashville, my friend says the suspension is comfy lol.

Gas mileage was nice, averaged 75 to 80mph, Birmingham to Chatty then did some city driving and exploring then to Nashville all on one tank. Nash back to Birmingham only took half a tank, ran a/c the whole way. All the gauges behaved. Roughly 10 hours was spent in the Jeep this weekend, my back feels great and didn't get tired at all.
Got some lottery tickets while I was out there too lol.

I like the stock speakers, think I may add a sub or just aftermarket rear speakers. Since it kills most of the road noise anyway.

Can't wait to take it on my upcoming Miami and Colorado trips this year. Looking at rooftop carriers to add to the rack.
