Cherokee Hybrid build thread

This is going to be a build/progress thread about my 2000 Cherokee Sport.

I used to have a 2001 Ford Ranger Edge 4x4 with 32s, and after about 200k miles and a rear axle swap I decided to sell it. I sold it for $3800.

I decided I wanted a Cherokee, since my buddy (jeepkid03) has an XJ and everyone in my family has a lifted Wrangler.

After searching for about a month, I found one for sale in the next town over.

It had been in Arizona for most of its life, and the body was spotless. No rust anywhere. It was a 2000 XJ sport with the 4.0/AW4/NP242 and had the Chrysler 8.25 rear axle. It needed an alignment and some new tires, as well as a new headliner. I bought it for $3500 with 92k miles. :highfive:

Since there are so many Prius' around here, I decided that adding a hybrid badge to my 13 year old oil leaking Jeep was pretty fitting.

I use hand controls to drive my XJ, so I had to get those installed first.

Next, I decided I did not want to take my Wheelchair apart, so I cut a hole in the back hatch plastic so I could open it from the inside. I folded the back seat down, so I can just go out the back from the driver's seat. This also allows me to get in and out easily if people park too close to my driver door.

Next, I replaced the old worn-out whitewall highway tires with some 235/75R15 Goodyear Duratracs.

I also scored some Grand Cherokee seats from a '98 Laredo a guy was parting out. I got them for $80 and it was an easy swap.

Next, I fixed the sagging headliner. It was touching my head while I was driving, and flapping around with the windows down.

While I had the headliner out, I swapped in an Overhead Console I found on eBay.

I added some factory Infinity Tweeters, also from eBay. At this time, I also replaced all the speakers with Kickers. They sound boss.

The stock tape player wasn't really cutting it, so I got a JVC CD player with AUX input and remote. You can also see the woodgrain dash piece I bought.

I needed a little more bass to the system, so I bought an XJpod sub enclosure off Craigslist with an MTX sub. It works pretty nicely!

:cheers2:

Since I do a lot of late night driving in the sticks, the stock headlights seemed dimmer than flashlights. I bought the IPF H4 housings, the ARB harness, and some Hella 90/130watt H4 bulbs. Those worked nicely, but I needed MOAR. :D

I installed some factory fog lights, and some Hella 700FFs with 130 watt bulbs which are tied into the high beams.

I also found a nice chrome grill off an XJ Limited.

You can see my huge tranny cooler in that pic as well.

Next I put on some armor, after a deer ran into the side of my Jeep. Luckily it barely dented my passenger front door. I started with a front skid plate, and have more I need to install still.

The old shocks rode like a boat, so I upgraded to some Old Man Emu Sport shocks.

I recommend these and they ride like butter in comparison.

I also installed a Curt trailer hitch:

I also added a few stickers:

For passengers:

I also installed a 60mm bored throttle body from Stroked Jeep, a highflow thermostat housing, and a flowmaster super 40 exhaust.

I will upload an exhaust video soon.

Since my jeep had the 0331 head, I swapped it out with a new Clearwater head, which is documented in this thread:

I still have a Spartan locker I have to install in the rear axle.

More updates to come.

Here is a video of my exhaust.

I have a Cherrybomb high flow cat, a Flowmaster Super 40, and a Dynomax tailpipe. All of it is 2.25" piping.

Clean XJ with tastefully done mods... you have my attention!

I like all the limited mods. I did all the same to my jeep minus the chrome grill (that I secretly want)

Keep up the good work

Because I'm in a wheelchair.

So my A/C decided to stop working, so for a temporary fix I mounted a 12 volt OSCILLATING fan to the visor. It actually works pretty well.

Next, I decided to go on a camping trip in New Hampshire with my buddy Josh (jeepkid03).

Here is a picture of our campsite:

Here are some pics of the scenery in the area:

And a few with the Jeep....

Drove through a covered bridge. There was a cop behind me who probably wasn't amused at my exhaust echoing through the bridge.

http://i926.photobucket.com/albums/a...psc2490a74.jpg

Went to see the Old Man of the Mountain that was formed into the rocks, then realized it fell down in 2004... :highfive:
