Hello everyone, I am a new member! This is my '98 ZJ, it's started to get warmer here and I've always wanted to pop the doors off and give it a go.
This was taken with a poor camera, I might upload a better one tomorrow that'll do it some more liberty. She's stock by the way, and 2wd..... ha ha everyone laugh with me
Just realized this is the wrong section, apologies etc
I agree with 4DoorXJ, 2 door XJ's look the best. If I do the doorless thing, it will only be the front because with all four off it looks too much like a 4 door JK, plus I keep stuff in the back seat and wouldn't want stuff falling out.
I have mine removed, though I feel a certain way about it both positive and negative. And also while I feel the whole "doors are structural" thing is total nonsense, I do have unibody rail stiffeners, though I did that for other reasons.
I drilled hinges to 3/8" and used 3/8" hardware welded to the door side and as a result have ZERO door sag. Doors off is great for wheeling, the increase in visibility and comfort plays a big role in finding the right line. One thing though is, with a couple exceptions here and there, I typically DO NOT run on the street doorless.
I have my reasons, though most are aesthetic more so than overall safety. My biggest two are:
1. Kinda gives off a Wrangler wannabe vibe. While Im a former TJ owner and I dont personally view it that way, it is a bit undeniable.
2. Certain angles (i.e. dead on side view) look a little funny. I have carried my two tone bedliner theme over to my sills and b pillar to lessen the effect but its hard to deny it looks like something is missing... well because it is, well over 200lbs of something actually.
My plan is to build a set of tube doors. Will give me something to hang onto without limiting visibility, and will make things look a little more finished and less like some redneck who had his doors fall off.
Dang this thread is old haha niksxj is my wife now and I do own a TJ and a XJ! The xjs doors all come off to and she now likes haha. And Calvin is right! 2006_sport is a idiot lol!
I don't want to smell diesel all day if it gets an engine swap it'll be a coyote 5.0 . But it will get front and rear stretch one day when it gets a 60/14b and atlas or flipped D300

Being a Ford man I'll still have a heart throb for it. If you were to go with a 5.0C would you keep the fun stick or go auto? Just curious, I like the fun stick! Yes, I admit that auto's are better off road but you can't deny the fun of banging your own gears.
