Can't get rid of me that easy ! !

Well, I put my XJ up for sale and was ready to sell it. In fact, I had many people look at it. Every time someone made an offer, i shot it down. The jeep isn't really worth a lot of money, and I have almost nothing in it. However, I could not sell it. So, I have decided to, rather than waste money on a different car to DD, I'm going to sink a bit of cash into the ol XJ. As of right now I NEED to get the front end figured out. It has DW like crazy. I am looking at doing a long arm setup to make the ride a bit better, and will be doing the 1ton steering. Looking at the IRO trackbar. Out back, I am going to fab up some shackle relocation brackets in an attempt to get some ride quality back as well as better flex. Looking at doing some trimming to fit some 33s also. Also, I think I am going to try some gimmick things to get some kind of MPG out of it. I realize that lifting and tossing bigger tires on something is not good for fuel mileage, but I just can't swallow the idea of driving something else. Plus, I figure that by the time I buy a used car and do basic repairs, I could just sink that into the Jeeps gas tank and still be driving something cool. So, like the title states "Can't get rid of me that easy" Anyone else DD their lifted XJ any distance and have some tips ideas that might make it more user friendly while commuting?

I have an 89, lifted 3 inches and running 31x10.50's. With my mud tires I got about 14 in town, my AT's get about 15. Best I've ever gotten was 18.5, running the freeway on my AT's. You're not gonna get very good mileage. The taller you go, the worse it gets. The bigger the tires, the worse it gets. Gearing makes a lot of difference, though. Yours is a bit newer so you'll probably pull a bit better mileage than me, but I don't know of anything besides driving technique to help you out. You know, drafting, easy on the skinny pedal, coast when you can, all that fun stuff.

Currently working on mine as a DD.

The ride on short arms with 5.5 lift doesnt bother me at all, I just run soft springs and soft shocks.

I went with cooper STTs but if I were to get the Discover M+S I would be getting better gas mileage (about 18 on the highway right now)

Def have to get a matching gear ratio to whatever tires you get for max MPG

I tore out all my carpet and dynomat'ed (peal and sealed) the whole floor. then put viynle down (MUCH quieter!)

A good stereo system always helps for DDing.

Rip out your ****ty stock seats and put some in from a Grand

I have a 93 xj Country with stock gears in a D30/8.25 with 4.5inch lift 33in bfg at's. I get about 16 to 17 mpg. Which is normally close to 300 per tank. Not bad at all. I did a tune up when i first bought her 2 years ago.
