Can we talk about roof racks for a minute?

So I think the time has come for me to step my roof rack game up.

In fact, I know it's time, because I don't actually have a roof rack.

Where am I going to store my hypothetical kayak, or mountain bike, or freshly killed moose carcass?

If you'd all be so kind, I'd love to see what you've got, get some ballpark prices, and basically just get the general lowdown on all things roof accessories.

Yee-haw!

well, for that moose carcas, i suggest a trailer, just for ease. however, for the kayaks and mt bikes, thule and yakima make some great systems. if you want an off road adventure style rack, go for a surco which i believe you can pick up for around 150 plus shipping. then make some custom mounts for you hypothetical kayaks and mountain bikes

go for the surco. its on summit for something like $198. get the gutter mounts too, something like $40. increases the weight load and makes it alot more rigid. i love mine.

I don't have a roof rack, but I did put a deer on my roof last winter and man they're heavy to put up there by yourself.

A surco rack would not be the best for bikes or kayaks. I use some kayak stackers for my kayaks from Thule and they work good but I would rather have the kayak blocks that i had seen online before.

How are you guys running power to those lights on your racks? What entry point are you using for the penetrations?
