Buying my first Cherokee...help!

I'm looking at buying a friend's '94 Cherokee SPORT. I have a baby now, and need more room that my wrangler has.

Are there any problem areas for that year that I should look for?

Are the transfer cases and transmissions in those ok? I think it has NP242, and AW4.

How's the heater in them?

Outside of normal stuff you should check, look for rust in the footwells up front, on the rockers, in the cargo area, ect

Both are great. The 242 you're stuck with a hack and tap SYE if you ever lift it, but you also get full time 4wd which is great for hazardous road conditions.

Never had any problems with my heater. It was a little slow to warm up, but other than that no complaints.

My only complaint, well one of my complaints, is that my Cherokee does not have rear headrests and I use mine as a dd with my 5yr old son and 1 yr old daughter.

Not so much of an issue with my daughters seat but with my son's booster, it requires a headrest to support it.

Thanks guys, I'll look at those areas for rust.

What's the hack and tap SYE you are talking about? I have a habit of UN-stocking stock vehicles lol. I'm already thinking of RC lifts....ei yi yi

Theres very few options for SYEs for the 242 tcase, pretty much stuck doing this:

Hack 'N Tap SYE Installation
NP 242, Hack n' Tap SYE, Stock Front Shaft - Jeep Cherokee Forum
