I currently have a 1997 red XJ Sport with 192K mi. My friend has a 2001 red XJ classic I think. His has 140k mi. He offered to sell me his for $500.

I'm going to check it out today to see if it has the same axle and transfer case. The only differences I know are in appearance; he has electric locks and windows. His windows are tinted. His tires are a mix match. Mine are nice. They are both automatic 4x4. He has a small side window knocked out. He says he needs a new exhaust hanger. He has a vibration around 45mph. He just replaced a radiator hose. His ac is unplugged. His rocker panels are about gone. And I'm pretty sure he needs a tune up and new breaks. Mine has a bit more rust on it than his. Mine has a slight weak frame spot that looks like I could get by. And my rockers are bad and doors starting to rust up.

I have been doing work on my XJ so it's in pretty good shape;

I've replaced the radiator
New breaks all around
New plugs, wires, distributor cap and button
New CD player
Fixed the blower motor resistor
New oil sending unit
Replaced ac with pulley
New steering pump
New belt
Cut out rockers and new ones available to be installed.
New auxiliary fan.
New blinker armature
New fan switch
Fixed door speaker

What do you guys think? Should I buy his and fix it up and resell? Would it be worth it? Or Should I buy it and keep one for DD and one for parts! Or should I keep one for DD and slowly mod up the other for trail.!?

Even if it had issues, I'd buy it at $500.....but the 0331 issue is not as bad as rumored.
