Did a few things today; I finished dropping in bolts for the trailer hitch, there are now 8 bolts holding it on, 7 of which are beefy grade 8s and the one factory metric 8.8 I think that holds up the exhaust. That should be plenty strong. I also reattached my left rear shock, it had come off on the upper mount (probably because I only had one bolt holding it on), so now there are two like there should be haha. And I bent my front brake hard lines down and used some self tapping screws to hold them in their new location.
Hahahahahha I am addicted to this thread. Plus, I read through your entire first build. On most forums you typically read about people wanting something or brainstorming. I like the fact that you talk about it, buy it, do it and than use it
4-5 years ago a bunch of my friends were finishing up at App. State and going to Caldwell. I'll never forget being stuck on a Mountain with four flat tires in an overloaded Subaru. We headed past Grandfather Mountain in hopes of finding Harpers Ferry.
After that incident, I own an XJ, my Fiance' is going on her second XJ, my twin brother bought one I have plans to pick up a Waggy (Wagonner) and go nuts with trail mods.
While driving to Uwharrie my exhaust fell off. It separated where the cat meets the pipe on the muffler side. I was immediately pissed but I was able to use my GPS to find a local auto shop and they welded everything back together for me for $25. Apart from that the only carnage I suffered is a split power steering line, it was spraying power steering fluid all over the exhaust manifold when I would turn to full lock and smoking pretty bad. But still, not that bad.
I don't have any pictures of me going up Daniel, but Stephen's little brother has some video of me crawling up. I only got hung up once on each ledge and all I had to do was back up about a foot and give it a little bump. I was very happy with my little XJ.
Between the two ledges we ran across this guy, he had rolled his four wheeler backwards and it had tumbled off the trail. One of the guys winched him back up and after a few minutes it started up and he drove off.
