I noticed there is a little slop in the yoke at the tcase. Don't think there should be? Its only a slight bit.

if you have an SYE there should be no slop since its a fixed yoke

Hmm... Yeah I have an Sye. It also has like 42k miles on though. Don't think the Sye is my issue tho. Going to drop the jeep off at the shop tomorrow I'll make sure I keep the thread up to date.

Got some word on the jeep today from the shop...

"Jordan, we dropped the diff cover and checked the backlash and pattern and everything checks out great. I am going to take it for a ride now and see how hot it gets. My mechanic is concerned that you had a long drive home and did not do a proper break-in schedule, but I think we found the real culprit. While looking at everything under the Jeep I noticed excessive slop in the rear output yoke on the transfer case. The yoke could visibly move up and down. Upon inspection it was found that the retaining nut was loose as well as three of the four bolts that hold on the driveshaft at the yoke. We took everything apart, cleaned it up, and re-installed everything tight and used thread locking compound. That could have given a pretty bad vibration."

idk how the all that could come loose? They also never told me to "break in" the gears. so idk hopefully nothing is wrong once they tighten up the 2 shafts. I guess its kinda good news in comparison as to what it could be lol

Well the shop owner called me, said he was out on a test drive and stopped to drab a drink and came out and the jeep was full of smoke Im guessing he used my fire extinguisher to stop the smoking and than called me. Come to find out the wire that I use to have for my roof lights shorted out and melted and that was the issue. Thankfully nothing else happened. My amp wire got burnt but that isnt a big deal i can just shrink wrap the damaged area. The wire was capped and the switch was off, my guess would be the wire casing melted on the tran tunnel from the heat and shorted out... needless to say that was one hell of a surprise haha

one the bright side he said they tightened the SYE back to specs (idk how it came loose) and the noise and vibes are gone.

Ive decided im also going to go back to a mechanical XJ fan. I dont want anymore surprise issues with wiring. Plus when your out booze cruising (in the woods not on a road at all) its nice not to have to flip a switch haha

Also thinking about loosing the cowl intake and doing a snorkle? I dont do much mudding at all but i like the idea of "oh ****" and i think it would help it run a little cooler sucking air from outside the body? Thoughts? I know you can get ones off ebay for like $100 that work good. Like i said im not looking to drive through water over my hood

im just happy my damn jeep didnt burn to the ground lol

I would be more pissed at the fact that i never got to wheel it with the long arms or gears lmao

I still wanna know how the SYE came loose? lol

is anyone on here running the WJ steering pump? Mine is whining pretty bad so I wanna change it before it becomes and issue. The WJ pump idea seems like a good and reasonable upgrade to me. thoughts?
