better gas millage?

I just replace rear main seal. Valve cover gasket and oil pan gasket. And also replaced cap rotor wires and plugs. The only other thing i can do now is tires. I have a 1997 jeep cherokee. With the chrystler 8.24. What tire size would be the best for getting the best gas mileage? I am thinking maybe 30 inch?

I'm assuming just a regular 235/75 or whatever came on them stock would net you the best mileage. I'm assuming there's no lift? My Chrysler 8.25 is geared at 3.55, and I have 31's and I can tell a difference in mileage. I need to regear I think, the 31's put too much stress with those long gears

well the simple answer is you're not going to get anything resembling decent mileage from an XJ with a 6.5" lift.

But in general the closer to factory size, the better mileage you are going to get. Assuming that you still have factory gearing.
