Aw4 tranny good deal?

So I've found an aw4 tranny out of an 01 xj on cg today, 101k miles an asking 200 Obo or trade, does that sound decent or? I was thinking about trying to trade some small stuff just sitting in my storage trailer an just having a spare aw4 around any thoughts?

I've seen them listed for more. Do you think you will need a spare? At $200, though, you can check it out and possible rework it and have it available as insurance. I'd do it.....or a can;t think of a good reason to not do it.....

No I probably will never NEED a spare aw4, however If I can get it for cheap or trade stuff that's just lying around then I might be able to fix er up an have a spare even though odds are I'll never really use it. Right now all I know is it needs a torque converter. I'm kinda leaning away though, I found a thread on NAXJA containing all the info on the aw4, if I WERE ever to swap that 01 in my 96 I would have to do more work than just bolting in, whereas I could just hold off an find a parts 96 lounging around an get it for cheap. Right now I don't need any donor parts I just found this an was gonna go for it however I'm probably not now

I can buy transmissions from the local LKQ for $125 + $30 core. I just have to be patient to get one from a Cherokee with lower mileage. I am always checking their stock so when one comes around I will grab it up for future use.

I know having one around couldn't hurt. I decided to go check it out after all an see just in what shape it was in, it was pretty fried. I'm no transmission expert but I know it needed a new flywheel, didn't have the TC, an needed to be completely overhauled, the guy wanted 175 cash firm, I didn't take it, I know a guy whose father owns a scrap yard that I'll see if he has a cherokee laying around from time to time, he usually doesn't but oh well, I'm in no need of one at the moment but I'll deff. Keep my eye out
