Anybody tow a boat?

99 xj with 31s and the 4.0 165k. I wanna buy a bayliner capri, I think it weighs about 2000 pounds with gas and gear. I know it should be fine, truck has power and torque to boot but I live in utah. Elevation is about 5000 feet and most lakes are up in the mountains. Anybody have some experience with something like this?

I towed around my tent trailer and I'm on 31s with auto tranny and the power sucked and braking. Not to mention it was running hot. This was all on flat ground in town driving the trailer weighed 2500 pounds. I could not imagine me pulling it up mountain roads.

I'd put in a tranny cooler and make sure the trailer has brakes. I pull about 1000 lbs on 235s with the tow package and its about the most I'd feel comfortable with without trailer brakes. Your stopping distance increases quickly even on the flats. Good time to be buying a boat though. enjoy!

Make sure your cooling system is in peak condition, including an aux tranny cooler. It is far from ideal, but it is possible. with 31's you will be nearly crawling up hills.
