to all you xj jeepers i need some info

Ok so i have been looking for a xj for about 4 months now. All i can find are some that are rusted out with alot of miles and almost that same price as some that look clean with decent miles. What is a the going price of a decent xj? I found a 99 with some extras with 129xxx miles for $65xx.

It's entirely geographically dependent.

I think a good one would be fairly priced around $4000. A crappy one can be anywhere from $500-1000.

Thanks for the info

Here in my area, a nonrunning XJ will go for $1500.
230,000 miles and no AC? $4500.
180,000 miles and everything is cherry? $6000.

Ok i found a limited that has 198,000. I know it sounds a lot but these run for a long time right?

I was offered a '99 in white with 130,xxx on the clock by a former customer of mine for 4k. Not pristine but a very nice jeep with no rust. Been trying to sell my truck to get her. But no look yet.

That's not bad my last engine had 330,000 on the clock. Would have lasted much longer if I didn't heat soak it and melt it down.

if you are close to a border i would check neighboring states. fayetteville, ar or tulsa, ok usually have them for cheap. 198,000 if maintained would not bad. if not maintained, it could be a money pit.

I hate to say but i dont think i will be getting an xj soon. I live in a small town so not many choices, the one i saw the other day is missing a section of tje headliner, driver seat is trash and has almost 200,000 miles and they want $6500.

All cosmetic stuff like headliner and such can be fixed no problem. What you really need to look for is rust and if the engine has been maintained. Though 6500 sounds a bit too much for 198,000 haha. I got mine at roughly 6800 with 95k on the clock.

cowboyjack 08-01-2014 03:09 PM

There wasnt any rust that i could see. No body damage.

Iceman12 08-01-2014 05:08 PM

Jeez.... I live and work in N.va, just outside of DC. Notoriously pricey area, overcrowded, etc. but I only paid 2200 for mine with no real rust and 152k on it..... Granted I see some at 4-5k on CL sometimes, and you could pay more at some low rent dealers in the area. But u can still find running but rusty xj's for under 1000 around here.

Worktruck 08-01-2014 07:15 PM

I paid $1300 for a 99 with 153k. I took a chance though, PO was told by a mechanic it had a blown headgasket. It has a pinhole leak from the radiator and needed a good flush that was all
