Advice for newbie

I'm thinking about buying a cherokee but I don't know much about them. I currently have a Liberty but its only 2wd. I want something I can take on the trail. Any advice on what I should look for? Years, transmission?

I would take their advise with a grain of salt , their advice they give is based on their advertisers. Years ago they said revolvers were the greatest thing since sliced bread. Now they hate them and call them trash.
