Advice? '99 Jeep Cherokee Sport

Hi! I'm an 18 yr old girl new to the jeep world but I have a '99 grand cheerokee sport and I want to take it off road. I've never done this before, so I have no idea what is required. If anyone could give their advice on anything they think I should know? I know I need new tires (not sure what, though) and I'm already getting some kc for the roof but yea advice is welcome for this first timer!

Starting with the right section should help. You have a WJ Grand Cherokee, not an XJ Cherokee.

She did say it was a Grand Cherokee "sport" so it could be either.

Just to make sure:

1999 Cherokee Sport looks like this:

1999 Grand Cherokee looks like this:

The Grand Cherokee is larger and more rounded, where the regular Cherokee is boxier and smaller.

Dang MC. At least you could have let the young lady post a picture of herself and her Jeep before you ran her off.

Nice as long as it is mechanical sound it is already a decent off road vehicle in stock form.

Very nice. Welcome to the forum and you're in the right section for sure. Lots of great info here and in the XJ Technical Forum. In this forum (non-technical) we just talk about the different mods we have done, how much lift is needed for a certain size tire, what gear ratios work best for certain types of wheeling, the trips we go on and general stuff like that. In the XJ technical forum we talk about things like motor issues, electrical issues, transmission and driveline issues.

The XJ forum as a whole is pretty kicked back. You can ask or share just about anything and if it's in the wrong area a moderator will be nice and move it to the correct subforum.

Stick around. It's kinda fun here.

Welcome to jeepforum DJMLST.
I changed the title to your thread here, now that we've eliminated the confusion.
These guys are pretty up on all the XJ varieties and associated caveats or redeeming qualities. Feel free to hang around and chat a while.

Welcome to the forum. You have a pretty good jeep out of the box. Just about any mod to I will improve it, there are tons of aftermarket support for these little wagons. We'll all be more then happy to help in any way we can. Good luck and happy Jeeping!

Thank you all! I do have a question- If I would like to mount lights, would I be able to mount them on the roof? If so, does anyone know what type of light bar I should get?
