98 XJ Fair Price?

I'm looking for a true beater (im a ***** and wont beat too hard on my wk) and I know a guy selling an XJ.

Its a 98 XJ, interior is in good shape, exterior is pretty good minus bumpers and a huge dent on passenger front door. No rust, 220k miles (which is the only that scares me really). 1,000 bucks runs, inspected, new street sized tires. Just looking for some insight from the xj guys if that sounds like a fair price?

I'm not looking for anything to build up real crazy, but maybe like a 4-5" lift and throw some tube doors on. I live about 5 min from rausch and it kills me *****ing around on the greens with my wk lol. I want something that I can throw into stupid stuff and not be upset if i break stuff.

I uploaded a pic of it.

if it was me, i would jump on it. do you know anything about how it has been maintained? well maintained and 220k is not too scary, but if they haven't done the basic crap, i would be a little leary of it

I don't really know much about its history other than it's a guy at my work that is upgrading to a new jk from this. He's had it since 100kish range is about all I know.

Depends on the area you live in, but $1000 for a vehicle that runs and drives is not bad IMO. As far as the 220k on the drive train, as long as its been properly maintained, fluids changed etc you should be good to go. I would see if you could talk him/her into going to 800 or so and maybe you'll have a head start on some of the mods you want to do.

I bought an XJ for $500 recently and all I had to do was fluid changes and swap the bellhousing. It was a 96 with 124k.

Since all you're going to use it for is wheeling, I would assume putting a ton more miles on it won't happen very fast.

$1000 for a running 97+ in decent shape is a pretty good deal just about anywhere.

You didn't mention if it was a 4x4. If it is then a grand would be a good deal.

Figured it was but you never know. I would go for it. XJ's are a ton of fun.

I'd probably spend a grand on that. If you're just running around on trails, mileage on the engine won't really matter too much.

Or if you want to try out black/reds at Rausch for a few grand more, buy my XJ. (seriously, it's for sale, check my profile for all the mods)

Well I'll be posting pics in a week or so of it at home. I bit on it, talked it to $900 and i let him keep it until he picks up his new vehicle in a week or two. Looking forward to joining the xj owners as well as the wk

Good deal! You get the title? It would suck if he were to back out.
