I just got my first Jeep a few weeks ago and so far so good. The previous 4x4s I have owned were both Fords but happy to be trying something new.
I got my Jeep through craigslist a few weeks back. I was looking for something on a tight budget that was in good mechanical condition and either had a manual trans or 4x4 ( I settled on 4x4).
This guy, I can already tell we will be friends. '91 Limited with 151k on it. I climbed under it and couldnt find any rust or rot to speak of.. the body has one small spot where it has cancered away right behind the right rear wheel well but that is it.. rare for anything this age in the Northeast. Everything that should work on it is doing fine, for now. Not a single rip in any of the leather, looks as good as I could expect for a vehicle this age.
So far, no major problems with it. The driver's seat has an issue where the front of the seat has detached from the seat rails; I can see where a previous owner had somebody drop a couple of shoddy booger welds to reattach it. Right now I have it cinched down using 4 extra long, heavy-duty zipties and that seems to be doing the job.
Besides that, it needs front rubber soon, the window seals all need to be replaced and I have to figure out a better solution for the wing windows than the plexi that is glued/taped in there currently.
Let me know if you have any questions! I am thankful this resource is out here. Later this summer I'll get better wheels and tires for it, jack it up about 3 inches or so and take it out into nature for some fun.
