8.25 Spline ID

Is there anyway of checking the splines of the axle without pulling it out. How do I get the gear ratio with out the tag????.................. Just bought a 8.25 that was out of the jeep.

there might be a tag/sticker on the passenger side of the axle tube next to the drum with the info on it. but if it was out of a 97+ XJ its for sure 29 spline. if it was out of a 91-95 it for sure has 27 splines. 96 was the transition year, though most had 27, some had 29

Completely stock, and keeping it that way...

Don't double post in multiple sections. Since this is a tech question, your post in Cherokee Tech is all you need.

But really, this has been asked dozens of times before. You could have used the search feature. Don't know how? Here's a tutorial: http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/posting
