4:88's? Yay or nay?

I'm able to pick up a set of 4:88's for a Dana 30 front and Dana 44 rear. I'm currently running 3:55s with 35" tires. It does pretty decent but I can pick up the gears for 275$ brand new and am if it's worth spending the money to get them?

Are the gears used?

Also - might need a new carrier for the D30 gears.

It literally says they're new... Lol.

Yes you will need gears, master install kits, and a new D30 and D44 carriers because of the carrier break.

I say that's a good deal. You could use thick cut gears so you don't have to get a new carrier. And also make sure they are the correct cut pattern for your axles.

You have a 99 so you will need:

Reverse cut gears for your 99 (assuming its HP)
New carrier for the D30
New gears or thick cut for the D44
New carrier if gears arent thick cut
Master install kits and someone to set the gears up correctly.

The gears are thick cut, the Dana 30 I have in the front is off a 96.

That doesn't mean thick cut. Thick reverse cut gears for the 30 are nearly non existent anymore. They weren't a factory item on these

And he is saying that for the D30, typically you HAVE to get a new carrier instead of using reverse cut thick gears, because of the break in them.

I would also be surprised if the D30 gears are thick reverse cut. Find the numbers tamped on them.

Most 99 XJ's have 8.25 rear axles you may want to make sure you have a 8.25 cause D44 gears wont work in it !
