31 inch on a xj?

Hi all
Newb here.
I've got a 99 xj had for a year now.
It had a lift on it when I got it not sure how high, at least 2 inches could be more. I'd post a pic but im on the iPad so don't think I can
Anyway, I've been offered a part ex on on some wrangler 31inch tyres and wheels. They look cool but I was wondering, will it destroy my already poor mpg on motorway runs especially? Does it alter the handling a lot?
Will they rub anywhere?
Any advice appreciated ?
Cheers folks : )

Motorway?? WTF is that You MIGHT get minor rubbing, but I'm at 3" on 31's and I am fine. As far as MPG, it shouldn't destroy it, but it's not gonna help..

OH! Now I get it- tyres= england or there about??

That looks like around a 2" lift to me.

If you grab a tape measure, you can measure from the middle of your wheel to the bottom of the fender flare, and figure it out that way.

I think non-Upcountry XJs are 17.5inches from the wheel hub to the fender in the front, and 17 inches in the rear. Up country packaged XJs are like an inch(?) or so taller.

Looks like you have at least 4" in the rear and 2.5" - 3" in the front, bro... 31's would be fine on that XJ.

Upcountry was just a trim package that had slightly taller springs. Similar to Laredo or limited-etc... I think it was almost an inch taller.

But the only way to determine how much lift you have is to measure it like I told you. But I seriously don't see 4 inches of lift there.

Right I got 20 inches on the front 21 on the rear so does that mean I've got 4 and 3 inch lifts?

It's probably a 3.5 lift. That's good for a 31 inch tire easily. With some slight trimming you can do 32s. My old XJ had a 3.5 lift, and I was running 33s after I pulled the flare off and trimmed in back a little.
