Alright... I've taken a break from drooling over lifts and big tires and dreaming
and actually decided to work on the HEEP today instead of sitting on me arse.
I pulled the NSS. It was FILTHY, so I hit it up with some carb cleaner, lightly sanded the contacts, slapped some grease in there, and re-installed it. Ladies and gentlemen......the HEEP now has reverse lights
It doesn't let me start it up in Neutral anymore though.
I also tried to figure out why my sppedo wasn't working. I pulled the gauge cluster to see if something was loose. It all looked good back there, so I removed the speed sensor and speedo gear. The gear looked fine, so I re-installed that and did some more searching on here. All I could find was that it might be the VSS or a bad ground. Ground sounds like an easy check, so I found out that it's on the passenger's side of the motor behind the distributer cap. When I popped the hood and looked at it I saw that the whole area around that ground was FILTHY. It's all covered in cruddy oily crap. A little carb cleaner and light sanding once again........and.......THE SPEEDO WORKS
I ran the HEEP down the road and checked the accuracy with the GPS. It's pretty accurate. The odometer was working fine too, but the trip meter thingy was just clicking instead of turning. I pulled the cover off and forced the last digit up a little bit with a screw driver.....that did the trick and it works now too. Im afraid that when I reset it it will get stuck again though. oh well....all in all a good, productice day.
