Hey folks. My xj was totaled on Friday and I'm in the search of a new XJ. I have found a 2000 Cherokee Limited with 4.0/AW4 for 3600. I have contacted the seller and it sounds great. 127k miles, leather interior, fog lights, sylvania silverstar lights, Almost flawless paint with no dents, chips or major scratches, drivers power seat, and the np242. I asked if it was ever wrecked, and she said that as far as she knew, it never was.
I put the VIN into carfax. I went to a site and found that the 2k models have a lot of recall records. The 2000's VIN has 6 records. Do you think It would be worth it to pay for the carfax which is $45?
with my 2000 it had one recall. The "records" they talk about include how and when it was sold along with PO's i believe. They do that so that you get worried and buy from them lol. just check the oil to make sure it does not look like chocolate milk. With 127k if the 0331 head was going to crack it probably already would have, 3600 seems like a decent price, i would have payed that over my 2000 sport.
is it a plink plink kerrrrdunk? or more of a brrrrrconk doc doc miiiidge pang!!!? or is it a badonk ka donk? if it is the latter its just the normal fat *** of the JK
If it was serviced at a dealer along the line those will also show up in the carfax. And sometimes state inspections will show up. when i bought my 2000 classic it at 23 records and all but one that was a recall was for services at the dealer and shops and Mass state inspections.
Here's a 98 classic, with a lift, Low backspaced cragars, some kind of mud tire. it needs a lot of paint work, and the driver-front fender doesn't even look like it has holes for the flare! WTH?? I'm also not diggin the front bumper air dam stuff goin on.
I think painted all white, it would look good, but that would take even MORE money.
1998 Bright Platinum ZJ 5.9 Limited - 5.9l, 46RE, NV-242, D30/44a (Trac-Loc) w/3.73s - The DD
1999 White XJ Sport - 4.0l, AW4, NP-231, D30/8.25 w/3.55s - The Rig
I rushed into mine. Its getting better but still needs a lot.
I get tired of building my own cars. I may request a bailout from the Feds I've re-built so many cars.
Stick with the 99s, look for under 150K miles. Both XJs I bought this year I test drove for an hour+
I recommend driving one even longer at highway speeds. All the bearing/Ujoint/pinion/intake whistle/knocks crap will show up if they are there to be found.
By the way, look at this one. I was gonna buy it but the owner had to go out of town when I drove up into Michigan.
He wanted around 5k
