One can only hope. They still haven't provided any choice for the JK's, but they threw 3.0 diesels into grand cherokees and Chryslers 300's. Not sure what genius came up with that plan.

I'd probably buy one used, out of warranty, and do a motor swap.

One of these days mileage or a cracked head will take my 01's engine out, and I'll have a SERIOUS dilemma on whether to rebuild a 4.0 as a stroker or figure out how to get one of those CRD's into my XJ. It'd probably be a ***** to do but....that mileage AND that torque

Aside from the drivetrain, I love the stock approach and departure angles.

No offense to the Cherokee name, but Jeep needs to expand its vocabulary. They can't call everything that isn't a Wrangler a Cherokee or Cherokee X or X Cherokee. People have proven time and again that they can't understand that Cherokees and Grand Cherokees are not the same model. I get the design heritage and feel that this one must be called "Cherokee" as a result; the KL should get renamed.

Agreed. Can't tell you how many times I've realized as I opened the box at home that the parts store gave me Grand Cherokee components. With you on the KL too, if it matched the XJ in styling, construction and/or intended capability I could see it, but they have nothing to do with each other other than both being small 4-door unibodies with a 4x4 option.

Honestly the Patriot was much more a callback to the XJ's style, if they HAD to rename one after it I wish they'd done that one so it even looked similar.

Definitely. Better than a JK. And the fender openings looks more forgiving of larger tires for people that want to fiddle with it. Looks pretty flat across the bottom from the frame rails, too. Oughta be easy to armor.

The Commander XK was actually supposed to be the rebirth of the Cherokee. But very few recognize that, and even fewer want to recognize it.

Hard to imagine. Even dodging the capability questions, it's SO much bigger.
