2014 Cherokee Production Delayed

Detroit Free Press says the CEO announced a one month delay in the start of building production versions of the Cherokees (currently they are doing pre-production training.
Hummmm... Why the delay?

Probably a redesign of the front end. The feedback on it was overwhelmingly negative and they hinted at redesigning it before launch. It was supposed to be produced later anyway, but the leaked pictures forced them into it earlier than they'd initially planned.

Also this has nothing to do with XJ Cherokees.

I really hope this is the case.

New Front

Interesting.
I read where one of the designers said this was the most "wild" version and its the one management chose.
Maybe they floated it to see how it would be received.
I am not sure how much they could really change given the physical layout of the metal... I guess a consolidated headlight assembly like the GC.
The problem with a more traditional front is that they have compass (which looks like a mini-GC) a Cherokee (that would look like a medium GC) and the GC, very redundant.
I'd say drop the compass because the Cherokee is going to be a far better vehicle.

Go back to sticking round headlights and a 7 slot grill on everything. That's is and always should be the Jeep look. It's beyond me why they continue with the damn Compass.

As for management picking the most retarded one, go figure. Shows how out of touch with the market and consumer base they are.

The Patriot always seems to get ignored in these discussions, and I don't know why. It looks remarkably close to a Cherokee; I say beef it up or just add a beefed-up package to the Patriot line and re-name it Cherokee...and get rid of the Compass (though its existence is probably necessary for Jeep to offer things like the JK while still meeting CAFE standards). No matter what they do, most "XJ guys" around here will think they're the center of Jeep's world and piss and moan about it. If I were Jeep, I wouldn't care too much about what a lot of people around here think anyway since they'll never be happy with anything but the Jeep they already have in their driveway.

I like the compass, it's basically a modernized ZJ.

Now if only it had solid axles.

if they would start making everything with solid axles and the capability to actually go off-road with stock jeeps, i would be happy. the problem is they make too much for people who want a "jeep" but not for the capability of a true jeep.

Unfortunately niche markets don't really turn a profit on the scale they need and Federal standards make it impossible to go back to what Jeep once was.

Then again they've somehow gotten away with splitting RAM into it's own brand rather than a division of Dodge so maybe it is possible.
