2001 Jeep Cherokee Overheating
I have a 2001 XJ that I purchased with 130k miles on it. After about two weeks of driving, it suddenly began overheating. I got it home, replaced the thermostat, and it continued to overheat, so much so that I blew the head gasket.
Had the headgasket replaced. When this was done, there was no sign that the head was cracked. Got it back, overheated again.
Put a new fan clutch in it. Had the radiator rodded out, new thermostat. Drove for about 3 or 4 weeks, no problems, then recently, overheated again.
It doesn't overheat immediately upon driving. About 45 mins into a long trip the temp will suddenly shoot into the red. I will pop the hood and the coolant reservoir will be boiling. Also, the heater blows cool air.
I recently performed a compression test which was negative.
I am at my wits end with this thing. I've had it for 6 months and cannot rely on it.
I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about where to look next. I really do not want to get rid of it.
