2000 Cherokee?

I found a 2000 Cherokee for sale. The guy wants 2,900 for it. It has 89,000 miles and has a clean exterior and clean interior. He said it was in a minor accident a few years back and he had to replace the front fender. The reason he is selling is because he use to live in Wisconsin and needed it for the snow. Is there anything I should know about the 2000 model? Oh it is the 4.0 with an automatic and is stock.

i have wrecked mine twice and did $3000 worth of damage. still runs awesome. just check the unibody structure and make sure its not all bent outta whack. ask the owner about what was replace. if it was just a front fender you should be good

Ok this is the what the guy said "The only minor
issue with the car is that it was in an accident a couple of years ago
and had a door and a fender replaced, but that is a non issue at this
point." I'm going to go look at it sunday. There also is a 1994 Cherokee Sport for sale with 111,000 just down the road for me and that guy wants 3,400 (from a dealer).

if you get it i would get get a signed contract from him saying if with in X amount of time you find an issue with it that was the result of previous damage he will take it back, or even see if he will let you take it a good mechanic to get it checked out before you pay him.

i just dropped 10k on a 2001 with 78k on it but i twas from carmax and is in really great condition.

Trust me before I buy it I will bring it to my mechanic. If my mechanic says its good then I will offer the guy 2,500. Also everyone I talk to say jeeps are bad and not reliable. From what I have read the bad Cherokee is the Grand Cherokee. Do the normal Cherokees and Grand Cherokee share anything other then the 4.0?

well i have heard the "jeeps are bad, they break, ok the inline 6 leaks oil all the time, o the transfer case goes all the time, etc" i think that most of it is from people that dog the heck out of and abuse their jeeps. i have a few friends that have xj's, my best friend drove an XJ for about 2-3 years and his family had it for probably 6-8 years, bout it used (1989/1990) and it only had a few issues with it and well he isnt very nice to vehicles, plus the fact he was delivering pizzas so it was getting a lot of miles on it.

from what ive found there are a few common issues but most of them are with amenities (ac, gauges, etc, a few mechanical problems mostly from abuse though).

for what the grands and the xj's share i really dont know

This is more of a question post from me, not a statement on this car in question, but I have read that it's better to buy pre 2000 for the hp dana 30 up front.

Anyone care to comment on that?

Some people prefer the '99 and earlier XJ's becuase they are a simplier beast. The 2000/2001 XJ's got the low pinion Dana 30, and a DIS (distributorless ignition system). The low pinion Dana 30 really isn't a problem, I think, until you start adding a big lift kit. There are a buncha people on here running them w/o any problems. As far as the DIS, it's not bad it just complicates things a bit. I know the LP Dana 30 and the DIS wouldn't stop me from buying an '00/'01.

As far as the OP, sounds like a good deal to me. Just get it checked out buy your mechanic, which it sounds like your already going to do, and have them specifically check the previously damaged areas. The original/previous owner of mine hit a deer in '99 and replaced alot of the front end sheet metal. Looks great and have had no problems thus far. As long as it was fixed right you should have no problems. Good luck!

I'm pissed, I can't go take a look at it until Sunday and the guy emailed me saying some one is going to look at it Saturday and he says thereís a possibility it will sell before I even get to look at it. If it dose sell Iím going to go look at the 1994 XJ that's just down the road from me that has 111,000 on it. How are the 94s?

Well, the 2000 sold. So I went and found a 94 with 111000 on it for 3500. I talked the guy down to 3200 and put a deposit on it. The engine, paint and interior look almost brand new with no rust under the vehicle. I'm bringing it to my machine tomorrow but if all goes well I think I will get it. What do you guys think is 3200 a good price for a 1994 Sport in great shape. I don't no much about jeeps but do they have a timing belt or chain? It was a one owner vehicle and the old guy that had it traded it in for a car.
