1998 XJ Police Package Advice $500Worth it

I found this for $500, the guy says the push rod is bent...

Body is good, interior good, police package 4x4..125k on engine and tranny
It has been sitting for 2 years...

Should I snag this up? I already have a 2000Xj w/ 230k

Does the police package have a super charger? Any upgraded engine specs?

book value on a good 98 cherokee is over 2k...if you have the time to do the rehab, why the hell not? Then you'll have 2 vehicles to help you get away from zombies, cher, and cockroaches.

I'd buy it and get a 4.6L stroker kit with a nice healthy camshaft, install a MSD ignition, Upgrade the injectors and fuel pump , Port and polish the head and intake mainfold, Port match a nice set of headers, free flow exhaust, Bigger Throttle body.........

Since the XJ was never widely adopted as a police vehicle, there really isn't a set standard police package. There was an array of options given to the police purchasing an XJ:
  • 125 MPH speedo
  • A-pillar spotlight
  • Extended idle switch (raises idle by 250 RPM)
  • Police style dome light
  • 10" rear drums
  • NP242 xfer case
  • Heavy duty suspension
  • Tow package
Basically, there's nothing really unique to them other than that idle switch, slightly bigger rear drums (still piss-poor braking), the spotlight, and many have rubber/vinyl flooring instead of carpet. Obviously the fun trivia and bragging rights of having a police XJ are factors as well.

The extended idle switch is a neat feature for enhancing the cooling and amperage at idle for running accessories like lights, but this can be done on any other XJ as well with just a switch and some wire.

I would spend the $500 just to get the 125mph speedometer.

You could make it work. Get a 125mph gauge an change the speedo gear accordingly.

Completely stock, and keeping it that way...

Some have the police divider as well. Either way, it's a clean 98 in pretty good shape for $500, buy it.

How come nobody has addressed his question about if it has a supercharger yet?
No, it doesn't have a supercharger.
