Xj to TJ guy

So.
Ive come to the dark side, or from the dark side as some would argue.
My story:
Bought an old 88 xj back in 09, built it up with crappy parts, sold it for 3x what I paid, bought a 98..tossed a 4.5" RE superflex on it, got bored..sold it and bought an 84 toyota pickup..dumb idea, sold it after 3 weeks, bought an 00 xj with 90k on it. Built it, custom 3 link, 35s, 4 inches of lift, yada yada. Got bored at work yesterday and decided to toss the XJ on craigslist.
5 minutes later dude with a 97 tj texts me, wants my xj in a bad way.

I wasnt really serious about letting it go, but I gave in, and let the dude come look at it. He pulled up in his tj looked over the xj and asked what I thought about his TJ...it was nice, 160k (2.5L) ax5, 3" suspension lift, tube fenders, led lights, rock lights, new 33" baja claws, etc etc.

Traded even.

so now I have this TJ..and am new to the Wrangler world.
Long term plans is something along the lines of the RK triangulated LA setup with 35s and about 4 inches of lift.

Thoughts on the trade?

You got a decent deal. I wouldn't have traded the 4.0 or the 2.5L straight up though.

Pics or gtfo

Not sure I would have done a straight up trade for the 2.5 with 160k miles but too late now. Sounds like you like to flip your cars pretty fast anyway so you probably won't have any issues with it.

The Xj had its share of issues.
a crinkle in the unibody from a collision, constant air bag lite and no horn.
Plus it had a 2wd to 4x4 swap done on it by a complete idiot, held up fine for me..but I wasn't comfortable with someone else's work

From everything I've read the 2.5 is as reliable as the 4.0...
Its clean all around, sounds great..and I've always had a thing for wranglers.

I'll run the 2.5 till I can justify a 4.0 swap.
I live in the south. Not many highways...old country back roads...no need to go fast

Then sounds like the 2.5L is the perfect engine for you. I loved mine, just wish it had an extra 20hp to get up the hills easier around here. Really good reliable engine, just keep ontop of the maintenance (no 10,000 mile oil changes, that's strictly for new Priuses ).

I change my oil religiously.
I just bought everything for its first fluid change.
Mobil 1 high mileage full synthetic 10w-30 and some new diff fluid.

Drilled a few holes in the rear floor to let out water.

First damn day I drive it to work..get halfway home and the bottom drops out of the sky. No top, half doors.
Welcome to the wrangler life

Not sure if you know Justin Wright and Austin Calfee... but I know them just from riding, and being local..

I actually picked up a pitman arm from them last night.. and we got to talking about that TJ... they seemed to believe that they knew the dude that "built" it and that he was from clevelend. So I assume its safe to say it is most likely from cleveland.

I sold the thing last week though.

TJ just was a let down for me.
