Almost everyone waves around my area. If I'm looking somewhere else or distracted and miss a chance to wave, I feel like an idiot. Especially when I catch the guy waving out of the corner of my eye. It's like, "**** I just violated the code!!"

I know how you feel.

I try to always wave, some wave back some don't. Might be cause I have the hard top and full doors on eventhough it was in the 80's yesterday. But I don't have much choice with a newborn in the back.

in my area (central jersey) the JK owners are all soccer moms with the 4doors and kids packed in the back watching a DVD on the players installed on the seats. they're not driving a wrangler as far as i'm concerned, an offroad vehicle does not have DVD players installed all over for the kids, and soccer ball stickers all over the thing.

I'm new to the jeep world and I have an 09.

the dealership told me about the wave, but I would have had no idea.

I wave all the time (i'm used to it because of motorcycles anyway).

See, the thing is, the other 50% chose not to wave at your imitation Hummer. Jeep were never meant to have carpet or AC, and certainly not in-dash nav systems. Let's face it, when they decided to add four doors so that the kids could easily get out for soccer practice, the JK stopped being a Jeep. Just like the Cherokee, Liberty, Compass and Patriot aren't Jeeps.

The new article in JP magazine cites some of the vehicle that "sank Detriot", the consensus, any Jeep that isn't a JEEP.

I still wave because of the technicality that a JK is still called a Wrangler. But the fact that they now offer simulated beadlocks and "offroading gearing" on the JKs only means that the corporates have wisened up to the ploys of tricking uneducated wanna-be jeepsters into buying their new-bodied Durangos.

I wave, but I hardly get the chance because most of the Jeeps I see are either in front or behind me on the trail. Also, it's hard to wave through the seven-layers of manliness that are caked on my Jeep at any given time.

Conclusion: JKs don't wave for the same reason my puppy will never be a daddy: it ain't got no balls.

(This post is mostly to stir the pot. The beliefs stated in this post may or may not be the actual views of the poster. (Insert Pirate 4x4 middle finger smiley))

i always wave, and hardly any other jeeps wave back - they did when i had my tj, i think there are a few categories of no wavers: definitely the non jeeping i bought a 4 door suv mommy type (also known as the air conditioner and top on all summer scrapbooking gal), there is the jk hater (also known as the snobby can't get with any newer jeeps or their owners guy), and the DUR (also known as didn't even know it was a jeep type) - i have had only a few waves since getting my jk, two from other jks, 1 yj, and 1 tj - i've driven this thing 7 days a week for about a month - that's a pathetic amount of waves - some people don't care but i agree i think the wave is cool and we should keep waving - no matter what kind of jeep it is

Same in South Jersey. The concensus here is "JK's arent Jeeps", course neither are XJ's apparently. But I still wave to 90% of you TJ and YJ guys and the handful of JK's that actually look how a Jeep was meant to look. After awhile, people caught on and I get waves outside the Jeep club for a change Cheers.

Haha, crap. Although my wife owns a Jeep...yes! I really like the JKs, actually, but as a vehicle for transportation, not as a JEEP Jeep. My wife has a Liberty, and I keep telling her that when it's time to get rid of it, a brand new JK with four doors is in order...And funny enough, I will be getting the gearing and axles. Although, I think I would like to get a base X with 44s and 4.10s if they will custom build it. Then I can work my magic.

Either way, Jeeps stopped being Jeeps to me in 2006. QUESTION: Did the TJ meet such stiff resistance from YJ owners when it came out? I will start another post for this questions.
