Meh, if it started out as a Jeep, then it is still a Jeep. You don't need circle headlights and a "classic Jeep grille" to be a Jeep either. They all have their advantages and disadvantages.

So let me get this straight; We now know that Land Rovers started on a Jeep frame but there not a Jeep. A Pick up truck is not a Jeep but it does well in the desert. A Jeep is still a Jeep if it still has its frame and V.I.N., but a Jeep doesn't have to have a frame at all to be a Jeep!
If you have round head lites and a 6 spoke grill it's probable still a Jeep!
If you have square head lites and a 6 spoke grill it might still be a Jeep!
I think that about covers it

Sorry; Is "7 slot" the politically correct term?

A Jeep is no longer a Jeep when it's IFS'd, chromed, slammed, shaved, malled and repeatedly called a car. I don't care what the VIN or the registration says. Heck, my XJ's reg says "wagon". But I'm here to tell you, this Jeep ain't nobody's momma's "wagon"!

And please ... the number of slots in the grille has nothing to do with it, though the 7-slot guys would have you believe it's the holy grail .... It's simply the most common incarnation of our addiction.

Oh give me a break! When I decided to buy a Jeep this year do you think I went looking for a "metal" 10-20 yr old POS!? I bought new and it just happens that they are now JK's. Besides, I'd rather scratch or break off a plastic fender on a rock or tree than a damn metal square azz looking thing that a round wheel bigger than a VW beetle's won't fit under...

and a dumb arse cherokee owner would even feel the need to chime in on a "wrangler" forum..... Get a life and some money so you can afford a JK and then you won't have to be jealous anymore.

Oh brother ... the animosity. Maybe a Cherokee owner checks out the "New Posts" link and found a thread entitled: "When is a Jeep no longer a Jeep", instead of being partisan & saying, oops, that's a Wrangler forum ... can't post! Play nice kids ... I don't think the OP intended this to be a flame throwing, name calling thread. Altho IFS does irk me in a jeep, but not as badly as someone calling it a car. To each his own ... I guess.

Come on, this is just a thread to have fun with no need to get all sensitive as long as Jeeps have seven slot grilles and solid axles there will always be a Jeep.

For all you IFS haters, which is worse? A IFS based vehicle with 4wd or a 2wd with a solid front axle?

Just my $0.02, but I would think a 4wd Libby is more of a Jeep than a 2wd JK Unlimited. To me there should be no such thing as a "2wd (only) Jeep". That alone should supersede plastic fenders, square headlights, IFS, solid front axle, etc and anything else that's deemed "non-Jeep".

"6 spokes" or not.

If a Jeep rolled out of a Ford plant, is it still a Jeep?
What if it has 9 slot?
What if it's called an MB? or a GP?

it's not a real Jeep if you're too busy/quiet to wave because you're on your GO# D*@NED cell phone
My Jeep kicks a*s, but these are "real" Jeeps, too:
