IMO, a Jeep is more of an ideal then a form. Things such as....headlight shape....amount of plastic, appearance or what engine it has doesn't hinder its purpose or ability to do that purpose, so a Jeep stops being a Jeep only when it stops being able to do what Jeeps have been built to do since 1941.

umm, my steel plan jane wagon looking wheels cost me over $200, WAY more than I have ever paid for a steak dinner.

It stops being a jeep when you can't drive it to the trail, or on the street.

When they started calling them "wranglers".

Nothing against the YJs on up, and the other models, but when I think of "Jeep" I think of the CJ.

I get what you guys are saying (except for the JK hating), but the first thing I think of when I hear "Jeep" is usually a CJ.

Just popping in for a "funny" story about the registered thing...

When I got mine and went register it in NJ for the first time the REG papers said "SUBURB" for some odd reason. So the twit in MV said it was a Suburban...I said no it aint! It's a damned Jeep!! It aint got no doors, it aint got no roof, it's small enough to fit inside a Suburban hood!!
The twit said, oh! It's a truck? I said, what? It's a friggin JEEP! It looks like crap, it runs like crap, and it gets me almost everywhere I want to go - sometimes...
She had to find her boss to figure out where it fit into the hierarchy of payments. I saved about $30 per year!! My registration now says "WRANGLER"

Be Well,

[QUOTE=flatlander757;8225513
My Jeep will remain a Jeep as long as it's registered as a Jeep.

I don't really plan on ever having a non-streetable Jeep. It might be impractical as a daily driver, but could be used on the road if needed.

I love your story; I guess that means that a Suburban isn't a Suburban when it's really a "Jeep"
This paints a funny picture, A Jeep engine in a Suburban, I'm not talking about an inline 6, I mean the whole frickin "Jeep"!!!!!!!

"When is a 'Jeep' no longer a 'Jeep'?"

- When it no longer has a machine gun mounted between the seats... So I guess we're all out of luck.

Very few jeeps had machine guns mounted on them unless they were used primarily by the SAS
