Just so happens I was looking for an epoxy to use for a project of mine a while back and was surprised at all the options there is to pick from. Just Goggle it and it will lead to several choices. I ended up using JB Weld but didnít need as much as you do. Donít forget to figure in the cure time between layers.
Use casting resin!
Epoxy is cloudy the resin is crystal clear. I did a medallion for the center of my steering wheel. I replaces the Jeep logo with a Transformers one. That worked out so well I made a shift knob cap for my sons VW.
You can get the stuff at Michaels or AC Moore and you can also get molding compound to make whatever shape you want. Another benefit of the casting resin is that it is harder and you can polish it super smooth.
I figured and just got some pics.
The Jeep steering wheel was the first one and the stick shift top was the best.
If you look closely at the steering wheel pic you can see the raised Jeep lettering from the original medalion I made the mold from.
I went to lowe's today and told the guy in the paint dept what I wanted to do, he gave me some Durham's Rock Hard water putty. I'll try it out tonight and post pics and a review next week.
I Have a plastic Darth Vader head that came with candy in it. Filling it with the putty and then will drill and tap it. Also have an R2D2 that I can change out or use on the transfer case.
I like that transformers knob, that came out good.
