Went pricing rear bumpers got price shock

The last time I picked up a new rear bumper was 7-8 years ago. I paid $350 for a bumper that included a 2" hitch and a tire carrier. I recently had to replace my TJ's bumper. There were so many ugly rear bumpers to chose from and their prices were absurd. I guess the new thing is selling modular bumpers. Where you can start off by buying only the bumper and later when you have the coin you could buy the carrier section. Those units were going for serious money! I didn't like anything I saw on Quadratec's catalog. They seem to be catering to the JKs more. I ended up with a Rockbrawler bumper from Poison Spyder. With the shackles tips I paid $499 plus $75 for shipping. I was going to get a more generic version of this bumper from Quadratec but they wanted $150 for shipping! Anyone else experiencing price shock when buying a bumper?

Yep, my yj currently has no rear bumper. You can sometimes find good deals but you have to be patient and keep searching. I just want something basic but good looking, I agree most are hideous these days and very expensive for even just a basic bumper. I will probably just build another one down the road.

On a side note I have gotten free shipping by contacting the quadratec rep here on the site. Though I think he has been impossible to reach lately.

You're at the mercy of what the market will bear. And in this market most are willing to bear obscene prices on stupid parts.

I was in the same boat as you when it came to searching for a rear bumper. I just ordered my rear bumper from JCR Offroad. Check them out. They come unpainted but thats ok with me. Nothing a little rattle can cant fix!

Got pics? I got my front Hanson for 150ish shipped. I like the rear and it would then match the front, but more than twice the cost...not going to happen for me. I might try to build one with similar angles, but I know its not going to be as nice.

Nope. Unless you live in Zimbabwe, inflation was not 100% last year. It's market corrected on what the consumer will pay.

If you want to really freak yourself out, just grab an old Jp mag and look at the ads.

I saw the Savvy Offroad aluminum bumper. I didn't like the look. It looks too plain and too close to the body of the jeep. I like the look of the Poison Spyder Rockbrawler Bumper. If and when it arrives I will post a photo. Right now it seems to be in limbo. They claim it was shipped March 6 but nothing pops up on FedEx.

don't you want it close to the body? i'd like to see a comparison between the poison spyder and the savvy, add metal cloaks to that list as well.

I like how metal cloaks bumper is so tight to the frame, but would like an aluminum version

Ironhead, I have been rear ended about 7 times in 20 years of driving, because of that I avoid rear tire carriers, and bumpers that are close to the body of my Jeep. I install on all my 4x4 vehicles a Pintel. It sticks out about a foot. It has save my behind more times than I can count. I have seen people swerve away trying to avoid that pintel.

Metal Cloak rear bumper is very expensive. Complete rear bumper with carrier, you are looking at $1316. Shipping is $189 to my location. If you just buy the rear bumper it will cost you a fortune to build up to that complete bumper with carrier. The plain bumper without end caps is $419 without shipping. Add in the end caps for a carrier $296. The carrier section alone is $619.65 w/o shipping.
