Truly Modular Hardtop
I have been thinking about this for a while, done many searches (both the googles and JF), and talked about it with my jeepin buddies.
I would love to see a truly modular hardtop for a TJ (or LJ). Basically what I am thinking is a hardtop that could have the sides and back taken off (in the same manner as the soft top windows). I love having the top on my LJ with the sides removed and think it might be cool to have the same feeling in the cooler months when I have put the hardtop back on. Taking it a step further, have it modular in such a way that you could leave only a hard bikini top on as well. This would give you a bit of protection but still give you the true Jeep experience. What does everyone think? Good idea or stupid idea?

Another point about a modular hardtop, when you are traveling you could have both the security of the hardtop and the feeling of going NEARLY topless. Perhaps leave the sides and back at the hotel while you go offroading for the day.

Bestop makes a two piece hard top.
Steel Horse makes a two piece hard top. Etcetera.

Yeah but I want to be able to remove the sides and back... as far as I have seen, no such beast exists. Additionally, I am not aware that the two piece hardtops allow the "bikini" section to be left on with the rest of the top removed.

Another advantage to this is that it would be much easier to store for people that don't have a good storage place. You could just take the top apart and store it much easier during the summer.

Another great point! Just glad that I'm not the only one who thinks it might be a good idea.

would also make taking it off easier, as it would weigh less in pieces too
