Can of worms...
I will tell you this. For some reason many jeep owners just like the model they have and think the rest are junk. Ignore anyone that implies one model is better than the others overall, that just chest thumping. They all have their up's and down's. -If you want a jeep but dont want it for a wrenching hobby, get the newest one you can. -If you want a cool old jeep and can take a true beating and can be fixed with the simplest of tools, get a CJ. But you will be spending time learning about carbed 232's and 258's -If you want a jeep thats cheep to build very capable and simpler than the new cars, get a YJ. -If you want DD comfort get a limo jeep. -If you want DD comfort mixed capable wheeling get a TJ. Parts are a little more expensive than YJs. Its really about what you are looking for. All can be DD's. All can be extreme wheelers. All can both DD's and wheelers. It just what you want in it.

I have owned a YJ and currently own a TJ. I would love to go back to a YJ but in my area of the woods most of them are pretty rusted out. If you don't have much time for repairs or don't the space or tools to do them, my suggestion would be to buy as new of a jeep as you can afford. Any jeep will break on the trail periodically but you can cut down on repairs with a new jeep because they are newer and have less wear on them. For example, my 97 tj has 95000 miles on it and I just had to replace front wheel hubs, the steering box, and a few bushings.... nothing major but that kinda stuff just wears out as they get older.
just my two cents.....

I have 3 freinds with cj7, my dad had a cj5 w/ v8 and they all spend more time working on them the driving them, they are just old, that being said, they are IMO the best looking jeep. I own a YJ, I was not going to get anything that wasn't fuel injected, I have grown very tired of carbs. Now that I have a YJ, I can say that I wish I could have afforded a TJ for the better ride, I daily drive mine, and I also wrench on it at least weekly. The TJ is more expensive to purchase, and to modify.

I have had a YJ for about 10 years as a wheeler.
I have had my CJ for about 3. I have not driven my YJ in 2 years, I tore it down to start a new buildup, but have had so much fun in the CJ, that I basically have shelved the YJ. If it is a DD you want as new as you can afford, and I wouldn't recommend wheeling a DD much - because the minute you start wheeling it heavily reliability WILL drop.
