Is there a TJ/LJ "aficionado" in the house: Chrysler says it's proprietary...

Please don't misconstrue the post: I am not knocking Chrysler.

In fact, they were very fast in getting back to me (very fast) . I sent an email just yesterday requesting a "build sheet" for my 2005 LJ I just picked up. Already today, the emailed me all the "build sheet" information. That's less than 24 hour turn around. However, I also inquired about "my production number" and how many were produced? Etc. Etc. At the bottom of the email after the gave me the build sheet this was the response to my other questions.

Furthermore, we are sorry to inform you that the information you are
seeking is either unavailable or considered proprietary. General
information on the subject matter may be available via the internet.
Your understanding and continued patience is appreciated.
Thanks again for your email. We value your continued business with us.

I'm new to Jeeps, but why is that proprietary?

I'm guessing that they just don't want that information out in the open (production numbers etc..) Avoid getting in the competitors hands.

I think that means they don't want to tell you...I'm sure they can track that info from your VIN, but for some reason, they don't feel the need to share that with the general public. I can almost hear the engineer now telling the customer service rep "who cares?" or "he doesn't need to know that". Then the rep has no choice but to tell you it's "unavailable or proprietary".
