Soft Top Storage - Search No Help

Hey Guys,

Alright so this sounds dumb, please don't flame me. Its warming up here and I am going to go ahead and keep the top down for now. I have the back window rolled up and the soft top down. Is it bad for the back window to be rolled all summer long and also keep the soft top folded down all summer? I am talking probably from now until next October. I want to keep it on the jeep just in case it rains or something crazy. But is it a better idea to hang it somewhere unfolded? It's my first summer with this bad boy so any advice would be much appreciated.

Not sure I'd leave the back window rolled up in the top with it folded down all summer. I roll mine up out of the Jeep and store it in a window storage bag that attaches to the boot that goes over my top. All the windows store there and they are protected, but handy enough. I'm afraid that leaving it zipped to the top and rolled and then folding down the top would put too much pressure on it and make wrinkles or creases that could damage it.

Btw, I kind of hate you for being able to put the top down now..... I have 28 degrees and probably 6" of snow this morning.

Here's a pic with the boot on, it's made by Bestop and really cleans up the appearance with the top down. Please disregard the stock wheels, this is an old pic

Ha ha! Yeah, it was chilly on the way to work today, but worth it. It has been like 78+ here on the days, so I am enjoying it for now. You said ALL the windows store in there? I am wondering how that works because the side windows have those plastic tracks on each side making it impossible to roll up without creasing them. How did you do that? So you roll your rear window up separately? I like that cover though...

Side windows roll up long ways... and the back rolls up separately. We use the bags/sleeves to store them even when we don't have the boot on, to help prevent scratching, they get scratched up enough anyway. If you look at the pic on the passenger side you can see the zipper that the bag for that side zips to. Each bag zips onto the boot to store the windows. It's kind of, idk, prissy looking for a Jeep, but it does a nice job keeping things neat, safe and available without taking up a ton of room. Mine came from the PO, and I'm glad to have it.

Oh! Gottcha! Sounds neat. I should do that. I have been throwing them underneath the seat, and I guess this last time I wasnt so careful. I took them out this morning, and set them on top of something. the seat smashed them, and now they both have a dent in them with some nice scars. I should be more careful.

I am in a little different situation in that I totally remove my top. But, to answer your question. Each spring, I lower my top into a very tight fold, put straps around it and remove the entire top and bow assy from my Jeep and hang it from the rafters in my work shop. I remove the 3 windows, roll them up with towels between them, into a tight roll, strap and also hang them from the rafters.

When it starts getting cold, I wait for a good warm sunny day, unfold/unroll everything, let it warm/soften up, then reinstall for the winter.

Has worked good for me, and I think it is better on the top to get it out of the Jeep. I have a trail cover I use when rain is in the forecast and drive my pickup.

Cool! Just the answer I was looking for I wanted to make sure that keeping this sucker rolled up would be ok for it. I like your style thank you!

Last year, my top/windows stayed rolled up, hanging in my shop from the end of March till Thankgiving weekend.

I still have the factory top on my `02 (8 years old now), that still has more life in it. I think by doing it this way has enabled it to last this long. I also take the time to put silicon on the zippers and they all still work.

I will say that I have picked up a "like new" `06 top off Craigs List for when the day comes. It is stored in my shop the same way.
