Safe Wrangler!

Just heard the 2015 wrangler finished second in crash testing, Go Jeep!

Offset test. The overall score is down since one of the tests were for roof strength. And since it's a Jeep... well

Sad considering even an aftermarket bolt-in full cage can be had for well under $1000 and if they mass-produced it might be a $500 option at a factory cost of like $150.

Jeeps are built like bricks and the insurance industry rates Wranglers very high at preventing fatalities in accidents..... way above average.

Real world results beat the shiit out of lab testing.

Real world??? I'll take my 2500 Ram diesel at a weight of 8,000 pounds. Jeeps are solid so the other guy's crumple zones get to work.

Yeah but the roof comes off on a Wrangler. So in an accident, based on NHSTA rules, the roof don't function like other vehicles. Cage or not, the roof isn't as structurally useful.

As an engineer I love comments like this.

Why is my insurance for either of my Jeeps more than a vehicle the similar age?

Don't know. Wrangler often makes the '10 cheapest cars to insure' lists.

Just googled this - dang! I better call my insurance company. I'm getting ripped off. Thanks.

From USA Today in March 2015:

The 2015 cars with the cheapest average insurance rates:

1. Jeep Wrangler Sport 4WD - $1,134

2. Jeep Patriot Sport 2WD - $1,136

3. Honda CR-V LX 4WD - $1,160

4. Dodge Grand Caravan SE Plus - $1,162

5. Honda Odyssey LX - $1,163

6. Jeep Compass Sport 2WD - $1,164

7. Subaru Outback 2.5i - $1,176

8. Ford Edge SE 2WD - $1,176

9. Smart FortwoPure - $1,186

10. Ford Escape S 2WD - $1,190

Not a single GM in the top 10.

I am sure they are tested with the factory ft bumper. How would one of those aftermarket beast of a bumper affect the test?

worth talking with your insurance company, but I can think of a number of things.

Windshield easily damaged and needing replaced more than other vehicles.
Vehicle more likely to be damaged offroading than other vehicles that arent offroaded as much
Theft - maybe Jeeps are easier to steal and popular amongst car thieves
Theft of interior items and damage to tops - other solid roof vehicles probably dont get broken into as much and get their contents stolen.
Driver listed as primary driver is higher risk than driver listed as primary driver of other vehicle.

you need to shop for better insurance...
the trend is Wranglers are less than other vehicles.

My '05 TJR, $740.00
My '04 Ram 2500, $1060.00
