Run Shock boot or not?

What is everyone's opinoin on running the shock boots? Ive heard mixed things?

Don't run them if you do wheeling in watery or slop conditions. Crap will get stuck and rust the shaft.

I got boots on mine.
I don't have them zip tied at the bottom so they are easy to clean out.
I still don't know why I put them on there in the first place, never was a fan of polish condoms.
